“Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the–good lord another fucking goose feather stuck to my cheek!”
He turned toward me, pulling the quill out of the skin of his temple. Though the feather was out, he kept bitching.
“We need new pillows. Every night it’s the same, at least two impalations.”
“I get impaled nightly by goose feathers!”
“It’s their revenge.”
“I’m ordering a pillow with that remember foam.”
He reached for his phone, presumably to begin ordering. I turned toward him, laying on my side.
“Aren’t you going to finish your prayers?”
“After I order this pillow.”
I didn’t really care one way or the other wether his prayers were finished, I just liked to see how far he would exercise his faith when faced with the problem of his pillow.
“Seems like Amazon’s got this prayer covered for you.” I couldn’t help myself.
“Yeah, well, god helps those who help themselves. Do you want one too?”
“No, I’m fine.” I turned over, away from the light of his phone and looked at our glow-in-the-dark clock on the far wall. Another impulse purchase when Dan wanted to stop looking at his phone for the time because he’d inevitableyfind himself on YouTube or instagram.
It was only 9:30 PM. “Now what are you doing?”
“There’s this video on YouTube that Joe told me about.”
I turned to see his screen. A blue Pit bull was scooting his ass across the lawn, its legs out in front. Then it switched to dragging its lipstick on the grass which was amusing because its legs were sprawled out behind while the pit bull licked at the air.
“That dogs probably in pain.”
I was smiling but Dan was laughing hard, too hard.
“Hey, that reminds me of this other video I saw.” He scooted toward me and laid his head back down on his pillow.
“God dammit, another fucking feather!”
